Identify stamps

Photograph a stamp,
see its value as a range.

An album from an inheritance or a box from the attic? OWNY recognises which stamps are on the photo and gives a value range as orientation.

One photo, free and without signing up
  • One photo free, without signing up
  • Your photo is not stored on this page
  • No product sales, no advice
  1. 1 Take a photo Put the piece in good light, with its hallmark or maker's mark in view where you can. One photo is enough.
  2. 2 OWNY takes a look The image recognition looks at shape, material and details and reads hallmarks, maker's marks or signatures where they show.
  3. 3 Result with a value range What it is, who made it, from which period, plus a value range as orientation. No appraisal and no buying price.
  4. 4 Into your collection You check photo and result and keep them as an object, then add provenance, receipts and story.

Before the album

What makes a stamp valuable

Honestly, first: most stamps after 1960 were printed in large numbers and fetch little on their own. These are the features that matter.

Catalogue value is not a price Catalogues such as Michel give reference values for comparison. Stamps usually trade well below them, common ones often at a fraction.
Perforation and condition Missing perforations, creases, thin spots or stains lower the value. For some issues only the perforation tells a common stamp from a rare one.
Mint, hinged or cancelled Mint never hinged means the gum on the back is untouched. The catalogue gives a separate value for each condition. So photograph the back as well.
The whole collection Dealers often buy collections as a whole, by album or by weight. A list with photos and ranges helps you compare offers.

Frequently asked questions

How reliable is the value?

It is an automatically produced, non-binding orientation value: not an appraisal, not an authentication and not a buying price. Where a single figure would mislead, OWNY shows a range. Authenticity is checked by experts, for stamps for example a BPP expert.

Why is the value below the catalogue value?

Catalogue values such as Michel's are reference values for comparison, not prices stamps are bought at. Dealers and auctions usually pay far less, for common stamps often only a small part. That is why OWNY gives a range as orientation.

Can I photograph a whole album page?

Yes. Without an account, OWNY shows you on one photo how many stamps there are, what they are called and the range of their orientation values. With an account, OWNY creates each stamp on a stock page as an object of its own.

What happens to my photo?

For the free scan on this page we send it to an AI service (Google AI API); it is not stored. Until you register, it stays in your browser only. In OWNAMIC we keep it in your account.

OWNAMIC as an app

Add OWNAMIC to your Home Screen

iPhone and iPad have no install dialog – Apple leaves it to Safari's share menu. Three taps and OWNAMIC opens like any other app: full screen, with its own icon.

  1. Tap the share icon in Safari's bottom bar.
  2. Scroll down the list and choose “Add to Home Screen”.
  3. Confirm with “Add” – OWNAMIC is now on your Home Screen.

Only Safari can put a web app on the iOS Home Screen. If you are reading this in another browser, open ownamic.com in Safari first.
