Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator work out my parental benefit?
No. You enter the parental benefit (Elterngeld) yourself, together with whatever net income is left during the leave. In Germany you work out the amount with the federal Familienportal's Elterngeld calculator, where you also plan the months. OWNAMIC calculates no benefits.
What about start, end and the notice period?
This calculator does not work them out. In Germany, parental leave up to the third birthday is requested in writing from the employer at least seven weeks before it starts. For deadlines in your case, the federal Familienportal helps. This is not legal advice.
What assumptions does the calculator make?
Your figures and two fixed assumptions: 2 % income growth and 2 % inflation a year. After the leave it calculates with your net income today again. It assumes no return on this page; cash keeps the value you enter today.
Does it work for a sabbatical too?
Yes. Any break with less net income works the same way: enter the start, the end and the net income during that time; the other steps stay the same.
A description, not advice. The calculator works only with your own figures and two fixed assumptions: 2 % income growth and 2 % inflation a year. It counts a return only where you enter one yourself (starting value 0 %) and no taxes. It does not calculate pension entitlements and does not replace pension, financial or lending advice.
